ℹ️ Building your survey
Use the materials in the 🔗 References to help you build your own survey.
Here, I've listed some questions I think are very useful for the survey because they are very open and let the person thinks about you driven by the most remarkable characteristics/impressions you gave them.
- How would you rate my performance on a scale of 1-10?
- Name a situation where you though my participation was impressive and why you think like that
- Name a situation where you though my participation could be better and why you think like that
- Do you think there’s something I’m particularly good at? If so, what is it?
- Have you noticed any patterns in my behavior that might negatively affect my work?
- What would you like to see me change or improve about my work?
🎩 Tips & Tricks
- Face to face is always better: If your work environment is safe and open, try performing the survey in 1:1 sessions. Ask your peers and people you've worked closed to if they feel comfortable doing this way, if yes, send them the survey. Some people might not accept and this is not about you, it is about their personal development.
- Be an active listener: If performing the survey in 1:1 sessions, try to not to react over the comments or justify yourself. If needed, explore the answers and keep taking notes.
- Store the answers: It is important to store the results so you can review over time and check if there is something you keep lacking in your Development Map. A note taking app is ok (e.g Notion 😜 ) but try using specialized apps in forms. Google Form and TypeForm a good alternatives and they both integrate with Notion 😉
- Anonymity: If you plan to use an app to perform the survey it might be important for some people to keep their anonymity because they might not feel comfortable giving feedback. So it's nice idea to let people choose if they want to identify themselves or not.
- Define a period: Choose a pace in each you wish to programmatically perform this check with your peers. In my personal opinion it should be something between 2 to 4 times a year.
